Detailed information on Cone Chairs by Verner Panton for Fritz Hansen— Model 8800

29 1/2\"H × 28 1/4\"W × 25\"D

Designed by Verner Panton in 1959 and produced by Fritz Hansen after 1988, this Wire Cone Swivel Chair, model V-8800, is a striking example of mid-century modern design. Based on Panton\'s earlier Cone Chair, it exemplifies his vision of making sophisticated design accessible to a wider audience. True to its name, the chair features a distinctive cone-shaped wire frame constructed from black lacquered steel rods (or occasionally chrome), spiraling down to a central point and supported by a flat, circular plate base. Showcasing Panton\'s innovative use of materials and geometric forms, the chair functions as both a functional object and a work of Pop art.

Sold individually.  Two available.

This iconic piece incorporates a comfortable upholstered seat and back cushion, typically in black wool, adding a touch of sophistication and comfort to its minimalist, sculptural form. Driven by the belief that good design should be accessible to all, interior designer Verner Panton is known for furnishings that experiment with new materials. Panton, who began as a painter, studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1951. His signature playful forms and bold use of color were showcased in interior designs for projects such as the Spiegel Publishing House and the Visiona Exhibitions. Panton\'s work has been exhibited internationally and was the subject of a traveling retrospective at the Vitra Design Museum in 2000. This chair, in great vintage condition, is a testament to Panton\'s enduring legacy and a must-have for collectors and design enthusiasts.
