Mies van der Rohe\'s MR30 Lounge Chair was designed in 1931. The MR series was the first tubular steel frame furniture structures that Mies designed. Inspired by Mart Stam\'s cantilever frame, Mies\' continuous shape is seen in other furniture pieces by this master.
Mies van der Rohe’s term “less is more” will be forever ingrained in the philosophy of modern industrial designers and architects. His impact on furniture design and architecture remains as strong today as it was in the 1930s. Born in Germany, Mies van der Rohe was the Director of the Bauhaus from 1930 to 1933. He immigrated to the United States in 1938 and continued his career in design. He is responsible for many famous architectural projects, including the Seagram Building in New York, the Berlin National Gallery, and 860-880 Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.
This lounge capitalizes on the aesthetic qualities of tubular steel, a traditionally utilitarian material, while exuding luxury through the contrast between padded leather and the minimalist chrome frame.
Manufactured in Italy.
Dimensions: H 33\" D 34 3/4\" W 23 3/4\"
Materials: Upholstered lounge chair with foam cushions, tubular chrome arms, and frame.
