Detailed information on Kokonoe Koh (Jinkoya Sakubei tribute)

At a Glance: Sandalwood - Aloeswood hints - Gentle spice & resin - Refined aroma

History / Lineage: Part of Baieido’s Jinkoya Sakubei series. A tribute line created in honour of the company’s founder Jinkoya Sakubei, who began trading incense materials in Sakai in 1657 and whose original recipes inspire these blends. The Tribute Line was introduced to commemorate Baieido’s long heritage and uses historic formulas interpreted by the master blenders.

Main Notes / Character: Kokonoe Koh has a balanced sandalwood emphasis with supportive aromatic woods and subtle spice/resinous undertones. It’s calm, mellow, and woody with a richness that makes it versatile for daily use, meditation, or gentle fragrance in a space. Compared to the other incense in the Jinkoya line its quite soft, leaning into refined sandalwood notes rather than agarwood.

Meaning behind the Name: “Kokonoe” (九重) refers to layers associated with the imperial palace/inner chambers, suggesting elegance and depth, fitting for an incense that is both historical in origin and layered in its aromatic presence.
