HOT ! Vintage Early Vietnam Era Black M-1948 Cap Toe Boots Size: 11.5N

This is a pair of early Vietnam War era black M-1948 cap toe combat boots in size 11.5N.  They are in used, good vintage condition.  They were well cared for; the leather remains supple.  There are a couple of small surface cracks on the left boot near the sole (pictured).  These do not affect their wearability and with consistent care they will not grow.  The soles are well worn.  These boots are dated 1962.

These are not paratrooper boots!  While they could certainly have been used by paratroopers, they do not have the beveled heel to prevent them from being caught at the lip of the door when jumping.

The M-1948 combat boots were, however, designed off of the famous WWII paratrooper boots.  They replaced the M-43 double buckle boot and were meant for general issue.  The M-1948 saw service through the 1950\'s and into the early 1960\'s.  Originally issued in russet brown, the boots switched to black along with the U.S. Army\'s sweeping uniform changes in the late 1950\'s.  I have seen the black versions referred to as M-1956 boots.  These boots were replaced in the mid-1960\'s by the \"McNamara\" boots.  Nonetheless, boots such as these would have seen extensive use by early advisors and military technicians in Vietnam.

The M-1948 boots are highly sought after for their style and their quality construction.  If you intend to wear these, the  heel should be replaced by a cobbler.

Fun fact!  The M-1948 boots were the style portrayed on the original 1960\'s G.I. Joe action figures.

*** A NOTE ON SIZE ***

Like other 1960\'s U.S. Military combat boots, these fit true to size or slightly larger depending on the thickness of the socks being used.  Contrary to popular belief, the narrow width IS NOT unwearable.  When paired with mid or lightweight socks, these can provide a snug fit to a regular width foot.
