Historic ProvenanceThis design draws from a papyrus-motif capital that once crowned a column in front of the temple of Amun at Hibis in Egypt’s Kharga Oasis (380–343 BCE). The original, now in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, merges papyrus and foxtail flatsedge in one of the earliest examples of composite capitals. Reimagined through Met x Eichholtz, the Papyrus table translates the capital’s rhythm and symmetry into a modern form.
