This square Afshar sofra (dining cloth) was woven in Persia in the mid-20th century. Characterized by its bold minimalism, the central field presents a series of nested squares in deep rust red and indigo, accented by fine borders.
Sofras like this were traditionally used by nomadic Afshar families as ground spreads for meals or as ritual cloths during gatherings. The restrained geometry reflects both functionality and symbolic order, embodying balance and hospitality in Afshar culture.
